Binghamton (November 11, 2021) -- Roberson Museum and Science Center is pleased to unveil a new Home for the Holidays outdoor display that has been months in the making, thanks to a partnership between Broome-Tioga BOCES students and The Raymond Corporation.

Broome-Tioga BOCES students have been hard at work brainstorming, designing, and building a brand-new holiday display for the Roberson Museum’s 67th annual Home for the Holidays celebration (November 17 - January 7), which will be on-view to visitors next week. BOCES P-Tech engineering students were responsible for the initial planning and design, while Broome-Tioga BOCES career and technical programs—which included welding and carpentry—contributed to the fabrication and assembly of the outdoor display. All students exercised project management, problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration, which are crucial to the success of any project.

The P-TECH students had the benefit of coaching from a Raymond engineer and welder over the course of the project. Raymond also provided oversight to the students to construct the final project.

“Collaborating with prominent community partners such as the Roberson Museum and Science Center and Broome-Tioga BOCES is what makes our greater community thrive and grow,” says Steve VanNostrand, executive vice president of human resources for The Raymond Corporation. “Raymond is proud to support innovative real-world learning experiences that help enrich our students and showcase the skills, creativity and talents that are helping to build our future workforce.”

“We are strong proponents of hands-on learning outside of the classroom,” said Roberson’s Executive Director, Michael Grasso. “Partnerships like this between the business, education, and cultural communities enabled these students to learn key skills from working professionals and share their creations with thousands of visitors. As a Museum, we couldn’t be more proud of the creativity and ingenuity of these students. Our sincere thanks to the great people at BOCES and Raymond for working with us on this fantastic project.”
